Ghostbusters game. Catching up on TV shows: Madmen, Weeds, and Dexter. Not to mention that pesky job hunt thing.
My pal Jesse and I saw Black Dynamite on Thursday at the L.A. Film Festival. The screening was at the outdoor Ford Theatre, which turned out to be quite amazing. The movie was a blast. I haven't laughed that much in a long time and it's one of the most quotable movies I've seen in ages. My apologies to Michael Jai White for any bad things I said about him after watching Spawn. He's definitely redeemed in my eyes.
Hope you all are having a good weekend. If you're looking for something else to check out, how about the music of The New Limb? They're playing their final show of a month long residency at Detroit Bar in Costa Mesa on Monday and man, they are just amazing to watch. Phil said it best that it reminds me of seeing Cold War Kids up there just a few years ago. Very similar energy and quite the huge crowd. You can find out more by checking out their interview with Brax.
Hope you guys are having a good weekend.
Is it wrong that I'm more shocked that TMZ scooped all the major news outlets? Perhaps.
I'll always remember him as Captain EO.
Henry Reed Imler born at 5:55pm today. 7 lbs 13.5 oz, 20.5 inches.
I guess this makes him the first Junior Member of the LOD.
On Wednesday Anthony and I went to a book signing for David Malki's new Wondermark book, Clever Tricks to Stave Off Death. It was held at a swanky hotel in Beverly Hills and they had a photographer by the name of Noe Montes taking pictures using beards and other old timey props. Noe was very friendly and is an excellent photographer. Here's me:

And here's Anthony:

It was a very fun and classy evening. David Malki is always very nice and friendly and he even did a sketch in my book! If you're going to Comic-Con I highly recommend you seek him out in the webcomic area and if you're not you should still check out his comic and the new book, which I give my highest recommendation to.
Happy Birthday Brendan!!
Brendan got me started blogging. Not sure if that (the blogging) is a good thing or a bad thing at this point, but it sure changed the way I viewed the world.
So happy birthday to a good man who helped change my world.

Happiest of birthdays to our friend Honzo. I was just going through my stuff and found an old Gumby's cup and it reminded me of all the good times I had with Henry, Smiles, Eric, Gringo, and many others there. If there was ever an official lair of the LOD, it was Gumby's. I propose that one of these days we have a reunion there. Sorry I hijacked your birthday post with memories of pizza and beer, Henry, but those were good times.
We're only two days away from the release of Ghostbusters: The Video Game. I earned a $25 Gamestop card from E-Rewards and I'm really hoping it comes in the mail before then, otherwise I'll have to wait to buy the game I've been looking forward to pretty much my whole life. While some might think that sounds a tad dramatic, anyone who has played the original Ghostbusters game knows exactly what I'm talking about.
On the job front, a friend of mine got me a phone interview at his company for a tech support position and now I'm just waiting to hear back about an in-person interview. People keep asking me what I want for my birthday and the only thing I can really respond with (besides the aforementioned video game) is a job. I'm hoping that wish will come true very soon.
Danny sent me an email a couple days ago asking about iPhone App review sites since he is planning on purchasing the new iPhone 3GS. I figured I would share my response here since it could be helpful.
appsafari.com: While this site lacks detailed reviews it does provide user ratings, categories, and top 25 lists.
iPhone App Reviews: This is a pretty good blog featuring in-depth app reviews. I've found some cool apps on here that would have normally slipped through the cracks if I only browsed the app store.
What's On iPhone: In addition to app reviews this blog features all the latest iPhone news and lots of other useful information. Definitely worth an RSS subscription.
AppVee: This site is great because it has its own iPhone App that allows you to view app reviews and their great video reviews. You can also submit your own reviews and rankings.
Apple iPhone School: This site has reviews, news, and lots of helpful tutorials and other information. It also has a whole section dedicated to jailbreaking your iPhone.
Feel free to comment with your suggestions!
This is pretty much the most awesome thing ever. Jimmy's petition to reunite the cast of Saved By The Bell is very close to being successful. I can't wait!
YouTube - Ivan Reitman on Ghostbusters
Anthony and I went to a special screening of Ghostbusters put on by Fangoria for the 25th anniversary Blu-Ray release of the film. Director Ivan Reitman was there to introduce it and Anthony managed to get it on video. He has some great memories of filming the movie as well as his thoughts on the possibility of Ghostbusters 3. They also had the full version of the upcoming video game for people to play and it looked amazing. The game hits shelves on the 16th, just before my birthday! The screening was great and seeing one of my favorite movies ever on the big screen and in HD was a pretty awesome experience.
If you're a trivia fanatic like me then you have to try out 1 vs. 100 LIVE on Xbox. I played the first U.S. beta on Monday and it was a total blast. Basically it's like the game show, complete with live host, but you play at home on your console with 50,000+ other people. 100 people are chosen as "The Mob" who compete against one player who is chosen to be "The One." The other people playing are part of the crowd and play along to earn sweepstakes entries and to be in the top three players. According to the game's site, your chances to be in either The Mob or to be The One increase the more you play and the higher your score is. Once the Beta is over players will be competing for Microsoft Points but right now you can earn entries to win a plasma TV and other prizes. The next episode is tonight at 5:00 PM pacific, which is pretty soon.
In case you didn't know, Phil and I have a webcomic called Brax the Alien Rocker. Many of the stories come from our own adventures in the music industry over the last ten years or so. We've managed to put out 22 strips so far without missing a deadline and we're pretty proud of that. Even if the strip isn't your cup of tea, we would really appreciate your vote at Top Webcomics. Thanks!
Flash game of the day: Spewer - Run around eating stuff and solving puzzles using vomit, just like real life.
Just read this via Major Nelson's Twitter feed:
In the booth. Just saw Perfect Dark on XBLA running 1080p. It is coming to XBLA this winter. Free theme coming tomorrow!
While I'm still bummed we probably will never get Goldeneye on XBLA, this news makes me happy. While it wasn't quite the multiplayer timesink that 007 was, Perfect Dark should still be a lot of fun to play online. I for one am definitely looking forward to some Laptop Gun carnage.
I have now officially been unemployed for six months. We are definitely entering crunch time when it comes to the job search. So today I made a bunch of copies of my resume in preparation for a job fair I am going to tomorrow in Anaheim. I also have a few other possibilities out there so hopefully something will happen soon.
Also on the docket this week: Anthony and I are going to this midnight screening of the brand new Ghostbusters Blu-Ray tomorrow night. They just announced Ivan Reitman will be there, so that is super awesome. Thursday night they are showing Field of Dreams at the Fox Theatre in Fullerton so that should be fun. Other than that I am catching up on some shows I've been saving for a rainy day now that TV is on a hiatus. I've also been reading these things called books. They're all right.

Yes, a part of me really wanted to see Up tonight but the geek inside of me prevailed and I went with some friends to see Drag Me to Hell and I'm so glad I did. So let's say you're Sam Raimi and people are giving you all kinds of crap after Spiderman 3, saying you've lost it, saying you've sold out, all that crap. What do you do? You make Drag Me To Hell and you prove that you haven't lost a step. I was amazed at the reaction of some of the teenagers in the audience when we were leaving the theater. It became clear to me that they just didn't get it. Well, they can have their Friday the 13th remakes and all that junk. I will take movies like this any day of the week.
It had all the crazy camera angles, jarring sound effects, and even ridiculous gore (surprising amounts for a PG-13 film) that made the Evil Dead series so freaking awesome. With tongue firmly planted in cheek, Raimi really pulled out all the stops on this one and I was laughing and screaming like a girl at equal intervals. Yes, I'm sure Up is great but if you're looking for a little bit of sinister in your fun, go see this movie. It's definitely not for the faint of heart, but if you enjoy Raimi's older films, you won't regret seeing it.
Old School Nick is an awesome Tumblr blog that discusses all things classic Nickelodeon. From the whereabouts of the Wild and Crazy Kids hosts to the appreciation of Clarissa Darling, it's all there.
I think this says pretty much everything that needs to be said:
Probably NSFW.
"Buffy" creator Joss Whedon isn't involved and it's not set up at a studio, but Roy Lee and Doug Davison of Vertigo Entertainment are working with original movie director Fran Rubel Kuzui and her husband, Kaz Kuzui, on what is being labeled a remake or relaunch, but not a sequel or prequel.
Yeah, because the last Buffy film did so well. I'm not going to lie, I actually like it, but not for the reasons people were supposed to. It would be kind of awesome if they brought back Paul Reubens. Honestly, I doubt much will come of this. I could be wrong though.
In addition to being Memorial Day, today is also Towel Day. Hope you all have a good one.
Yeah, you heard me. Cyberdyne is a real company in Japan. Did I mention they are building a "cyborg-type robot" that you wear as a suit? This both fascinates and terrifies me. Thanks to /Film for the heads up.
Remember Doom? Remember Heretic? How about Hexen? Then Doom Triple Pack will be right up your alley. Be sure to read the controls before you get rolling because they take some getting used to, but once you get rolling, you'll feel like it's 1994 all over again.
I had my last day of class on Tuesday. For my final web design project I did a redesign of brendomanproductions.com. It uses tables and frames, which I’m not too proud about, but they were required. I am looking forward to next semester where we will be using Dreamweaver CS4, which uses CSS extensively. I did learn a bit of Flash and I’m pretty proud of that. One of these days I’ll throw up the little movie I made. Right now I’m just kind of relaxing and enjoying the down time. I got Peggle for my iPhone and now I’m pretty addicted. I am going to be kicking the job search in to high gear pretty soon, which will include getting a haircut and shaving. Yeah, I’m really going to do it.
